Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in Nude

Having broke my spending ban, I decided to indulge myself some more as Too Faced Melted reviews had been popping up everywhere. My instant reaction was 'do want, please give'. I was originally put off by the price but when BeautyBay had these on sale, I thought I'd try one.

I decided to go for one of the more 'boring' shades, Melted Nude as I've been purchasing too many unusual shades as of late. This shade tends to vary depending on the wearer, it comes off rather beige on me. Which works for me as I find shades of brown on my lips suit my skin tone.

Although it's not as glossy as in the promotional pictures, it does have a slight sheen to it originally and eventually fades into a stain. It is surprisingly super pigmented and easy to apply. The formula lasts around 4 hours, or longer depending on how little you eat, but I can't say for certain as it's so close to my lip color for me to notice.

I genuinely think the reason I wanted this so badly was because of the packaging of the box rather than the product itself. The tube packaging makes it great for squeezing out as much product as possible out when you're close to running out. The only problem I have is when I open it, there's always a bit of product that's been squeezed out already waiting to be used.

Each tube of Too Faced Melted range sells for £19 in the UK at BeautyBay, or £13.30 ($21) from Sephora. Personally, I love these, but would wait for them to be on offer before purchasing but definitely have my eye on that Violet shade of theirs, I have a problem.

Have you tried these out yet? What Too Faced products would you recommend?

Dose Of Colors Purple Fusion & Toxic

Some of you may have noticed the two purple Dose of Colors glosses I posted in my recent sales purchases post. I actually ended up picking these up during the Black Friday sales and I took my sweet time to use them, it's definitely the consequence of owning too many purple lipsticks

Dose of colors is an American indie brand and as far as I know they don't retail in any stores. As far as I can tell, they're also a rather young company as they don't really have many products. When I made my order last year, they were only selling false lashes and 7 lipglosses. They now offer 9 shades and have added a lipstick range too (I may have to pick up Dark Secrets).

Purple Fusion is a vivid blue violet gloss, I've worn this with my monarch nail art post.

Toxic is a gorgeous plum color that fades into a berry, definitely has a Lorde feel to it.

I've never been a big fan of lip glosses but as you can tell from the swatches above, these are incredibly pigmented. The applicator made it easy to apply and are super opaque without the need of a lip primer or balm. I'm not usually bothered by sticky or non sticky glosses but these are definitely non sticky. How long these last depend on how much you eat or drink but Toxic is the more durable shade of the two. I find using a lip liner or lipstick helps improve longevity.

Each gloss sells for $15 (approx £9) each. Alternatively, you can purchase all nine of their glosses for $115 which is just under £70. I got mine for around £6.5 each during the Black Friday sales.

I genuinely have nothing negative to say about these glosses. The packaging is gorgeous, the texture light and non sticky, it applies so well, there's no scent to put you off and it's so opaque. The price may be steep for some but considering how well these work, they're definitely worth it, even then, you can always wait until sale time. I prefer these to my intense Illamasqua glosses.

Overall, these glosses have turned myself, a notorious lipgloss hater, into a fan. I'd definitely recommend you try these, they're a solid 10/10 gloss.

Melt Cosmetics By Starlight Look

As a chronic purple lipstick hoarder, I wanted to pair Melt's By Starlight lipstick with something that wasn't just a simple flick of eyeliner and felt like some heavy eye makeup too. Being a magpie, I thought I'd couple it with some sparkly goodness too.

Today was one of those makeup days where it ended up looking nothing like I had originally planned but ended up being satisfied with it anyway. I was planning on just a simple purple smokey eye but then decided to wing it out with my eyeshadow. I've been feeling as though I don't give my Illamasqua pure pigments as much love for a while so I've been trying to use them more. Static is the first pure pigment I bought, normally it gives off a subtly pink sparkle but over a black base it leans violet.

After priming, I created a heavy winged cat eye with my black shadow then sweeped the crease with Illamasqua's static pure pigment. I then lined my lower lash line and blended in some of Urban Decay's Urban shadow from the Electric palette. Next, I removed any fall out and applied my foundation, lipstick and blush.

 Products Used
Lime Crime Eyeshadow Helper
Makeup Geek Shadow in Corrupt
Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Static
Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero
Urban Decay Electric Palette shadow in Urban
Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation in 233
Melt Cosmetics Lipstick in By Starlight
Illamasqua Powdered Metal in Thalia

LUSH Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask

After receiving a sample of Lush's Catastrophe Cosmetics Face Mask at a recent blog meet and finishing 5 pots of Lush goodies, I thought I'd pick up a full sized pack of the face mask. I had really liked the smell and feel of it but was still unsure of the face mask itself as I only managed to get 3/4 applications from the sample tub. Side note: the sample of this was very blue compared to the actual product, which is rather strange in my opinion.

Catastrophe Cosmetic is essentially meant to calm, cleanse and moisturise the skin. The ingredients include blueberries, which is rich in antioxidants that helps protect the skin from damage, calamine and chamomile, which calms and soothes the skin and lastly, rose and almond oils to balance the skin.

So is it effective? Definitely. I was experiencing random redness as an allergic reaction to something the other day and after applying my skin it felt less itchy and the redness definitely went down. I also found that the mask dries up quicker than their other face masks so I actually do only wear it for 10/15 minutes only.

I don't plan on repurchasing as although it did calm my skin and it smelled wonderful, it didn't really do much for me acne wise which is my main skin problem. However, if you do have redness problems, I would definitely suggest you try this out.

Each tub of Lush's face mask sells for £6.25 each and are available at your local Lush store.

5 Game of Thrones Characters I Have a Love Hate Relationship With

Source
Whilst characters in traditional fantasy fiction tend to obviously be either good or evil, Game of Thrones is filled with gray characters. There are a few obviously good ones but they aren't quite as interesting character wise. So it's no surprise that I would of course have developed a love hate relationship with a few of the characters. I'll try and keep things vaguely spoiler free and not go beyond what we've seen so far in the show. So, in no particular order...

Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid in Surrender

When Illamasqua announced that they were launching their own matte lip liquid, akin to Lime Crime's VelvetinesSleek's Matte Me and Pretty Zombie Cosmetic's Liquid Lipsticks, I was so eager to try them out I broke my spending ban. Do I regret it now that I've tried it? Kind of.

The formula itself is excellent for those that suffer from dry lips with matte liquid lipsticks. It has a somewhat tacky feel and isn't at all drying. However, I found Surrender wasn't particularly opaque and required a lip brush to fill gaps.

It's not especially durable either. Whilst most matte liquid lipsticks fade in the center of the lips, this faded everywhere but the center of the lips the first few times I wore it. However on my 3rd time wearing it, it began to fade in the center (go figure). During some hot noodles it almost completely disappears leaving random tiny patches. Otherwise, I'd say it lasts around 5 hours or more as long as you don't have any hot drinks/oily food.

Unlike many other liquid lipsticks, instead of a doe foot applicator, Illamasqua's lip liquids have a brush that I was disappointed to find was frayed despite being new. After using it thrice, the brush now has 3 frayed hairs which is ridiculous but fixable.

The lip liquids are advertised as being longlasting, highly pigmented and have a comfortable matte finish. Whilst it definitely has a comfortable matte finish that I'd be surprised would dry any lips up the other two are debatable. It's longlasting if you avoid eating completely and although pigmented, it has a habit of deciding it doesn't want to stick on your lips.

Illamasqua is one of my favorite brands so I do have high expectations for their products, so I was kind of disappointed with this. It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't paid £18.50 for it. Especially with so many brands selling similar products for a cheaper price. Ultimately, I'm hoping it was just the shade I chose that was a dud and would be open to trying out a different shade in the future.

You can purchase a matte lip liquid at Illamasqua's website or your local counter for £18.50.

Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes

Colors from L-R: Trololo, Smashing! Why Not Zoidberg?

Trololo is a lovely orange with a slight red tinge to it. It's not especially bright and makes for a good gateway orange shade for those of us who're afraid of the color.

I actually didn't chose Smashing because it was purple. In fact, I was expecting it to be a dusty rose pink as the swatch on their site looked very pink to me. This is why it's always important to read color descriptions! It is a mash of pink and purple and I'd imaging it would lean more pink depending on your natural lip color.

Why not Zoidberg is described as a bright coral and although the color itself is gorgeous put me off the most due to the products texture itself. Whilst the other 2 seemed to apply quite easily, this was grainy and is best applied with your fingers or a lip brush.

If you're a fan of memes and into seriously pigmented lip balms I would recommend you try these out. They contain shea butter and organic jojoba oil which keeps your lips so well moisturised throughout the day. They are surprisingly lost lasting and tend to leave a light stain after a meal. Despite their grainy formula, they're great to just throw in your handbag/backpack and apply when needed with your fingers.

Shiro's Intertubes will be discontinued by the end of May as the owner isn't 100% happy with the formula herself. They were originally sold for $8.50 (£5) but are on sale for $5 (£3).

Game of Thrones Rhaegal Inspired Makeup

Last year, I attempted to do a makeup look each week inspired by each of the major house in Game of Thrones but it all kind of blew up in my face due to my eczema so I stopped. This year, I thought I'd do something a bit less ambitious and do a makeup look based on each of Dany's dragons. For whatever reason, I felt like starting off with Rhaegal, who is mainly depicted in the show as a green dragon with a few bronze scales.

I decided to go for a double winged eyeliner look and fill in the blanks with Illamasqua's bronze pure pigment, Incite, instead of going the traditional route of white. The rest of the lid was a smokey green eye using mainly Concrete Minerals shadows and Urban Decay's Loaded which I've not made much use out of, so I'm glad I've taken it out again to use.

Products Used
Illamasqua Skin Base Life in Medium
Concrete Minerals Electric Primer
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Loaded
Concrete Minerals mineral shadows in swamped, charm school and living dead
 Illamasqua pure pigment in Incite
Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Perversion
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencils in Perversion and Junkie
Vitage Cosmetics eye color in Spiced Coffee
Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara
Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation
Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation

My Purple Lipstick Addiction & Swatches

Ever since I purchased my first purple lipstick (Illamasqua's Kontrol), I suddenly decided that I needed ALL of the purple lipsticks ever. I've swatched them all both on hand so it's easier to compare and on the lips with some very not so subtle posing. One of my biggest pet peeves is the number of lipsticks on the high street that are described as purple but swatch pink, brown or berry. All these lipsticks have passed my personal 'yup that shit's definitely purple' test.

First Row - Kate Moss 04, Coloured Raine Arabian Night, MAC Heroine
Middle Row - Illamasqua ESP, Illamasqua Kontrol, Melt Cosmetics By Starlight
Bottom Row - Sleek Exxxagerate, Kat Von D l.u.v, Revlon Shameless

Kate Moss 04 is a dark plum lipstick and although I love the color, I'm not a fan of the scent. Coloured Raine is an indie brand that I've not really heard much of but they have a range of crazy lipstick colors. Arabian Night is a deep true purple lipstick. MAC Heroine is a pinkish purple lipstick and officially my go to purple lip color in the last 2/3 months.

Illamasqua ESP is a vivid violet lipstick and forever one of the most difficult formulas to work with. Even with a lip primer it tends to patch up on your lips and won't stick in certain areas, it's a shame as the color itself is lovely. The formula on Illamasqua's Kontol is applies like a dream compared to ESP It is an opaque blue violet. Melt Cosmetic's By Starlight has an odd coconut scent to it but even though I'm not a fan of them the smell is tolerable.

Sleek Exxxagerate is an almost exact dupe to Heroine but is less vivid. Kat Von D L.U.V is unfortunately part of a limited edition set but is a lovely subtle shade. Revlon's Shameless is one of my first lipstick pencils and I love the convenience of it being a lip pencil and lipstick. I can totally understand why these are so popular, I definitely need more of these!

Favorites: Illamasqua Kontrol, MAC Heroine, Revlon's Shameless
Least Loved: Kate Moss 04 & Illamasqua ESP

Expect a second post of swatches but with purple liquid lipsticks and glosses in the future. There are a lot of other purple lipsticks out there, what are your favorites?

Lime Crime Pink Velvet Giveaway

Two years ago today I published my first post, it's a pretty rubbish one but I've improved and to celebrate I'm giving away Lime Crime's Pink Velvet. I adore my Red Velvet and thought as this is one of the newer and more accessible shades I'd give this away. I already have the item to giveaway and guarantee it's unused, but I have taken the product out of it's box for a few minutes to take a photo.

The giveaway is open internationally and you can enter via the Rafflecopter below!

Giveaway ends at the end of the month!

For my more loyal readers, I will be hosting a second giveaway after IMATs London for you where the only entry would be that you would have had to comment on a post in the past.

Color of the Moment Royal Blue

As I've previously mentioned, I'm not in to trends and am rather ignorant towards whatever is 'in' on the runway. So when I say color of the moment, I mean my personal color of the moment. Cobalt Blue is one of those colors that I've found too bright for clothing but makeup wise it's great to add drama. It's always been a shade I've never cared for in the past either but lately I've been obsessed with it so I thought I'd share my favorite bright cobalt blue makeup products.

L-R: CM Bang-Up, Sugarpill Royal Sugar, CM Bulletproof, MUG Neptune, MUA Royal Blue Liner, UD Chaos Liner, Lime Crime Lazuli Liner

Eyeshadow
All 4 shadows when swatched look similar but there are mild nit-picky differences. Concrete Minerals Bang-Up is packed with shimmer and the lightest of the lot and Sugarpill's Royal Sugar is the darkest with turquoise shimmer. Concrete Minerals Bulletproof shadow is a matte pigment while Makeup Geek's Neptune is a pressed shadow that requires you to layer for opaqueness.

Must Haves - Sugarpill Royal Sugar and Concrete Minerals Bulletproof
Honorable Mention - Urban Decay's Chaos shadow from Vice & Electric palette

Eyeliner
MUA royal blue intense eyeliner was the first MUA item I ever tried, and I was genuinely impressed by the pigmentation but it's not particularly long lasting. I picked up Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Chaos with my employee discount, the color payoff is disappointing as it's nowhere near as vibrant as you expect it to be. I find that the quality of Lime Crime's eyeliners vary with each shade but Lazuli was definitely one of the ones that were formulated perfectly.

Must Haves - MUA Royal Blue Intense Eyeliner & Lime Crime Lazuli
Honorable Mention - Stila Cobalt Waterproof Eyeliner (not tried)

Nails & Lips
I only own one true royal blue shade both nails and lip wise. I adore Barry M's Hi-Shine nail paint range and the shade Blue Grape is a perfect bright cobalt blue polish. For lazy girls like yours truly the shiny finish is great for when you can't be fussed to add a top coat. If you're into strange lipstick shades, Melt Cosmetic's DGAF is the most beautiful blue lip color period.

Must Haves - Both polish and lipstick if you're brave enough
Honorable Mention - Urban Decay Chaos Varnish

Do you have a color that you've never cared for that you're suddenly obsessed with?
