Mermaid Halloween Makeup

I've been lacking inspiration recently when it comes to Halloween makeup looks, I did plan on doing a Jigsaw look but it seems like everyone's been doing that so I decided not to bother essentially. I'll probably try it out at some other time though. Anyway I eventually found some inspiration from reddit when a lady did a cool but simple mermaid look, so I thought I'd replicate it but add my own twist to it. I wore this to a Halloween event the other night without wearing a proper mermaid costume because I didn't think I'd like the look so much and didn't plan ahead but I may in the future go as a full on mermaid.

My lack of mermaid costume made me seem as though I was dressed as a generic seapunk person according to a few others. It was funny when people complimented me on my costume thinking I was a really obscure anime character or just complimented me without suggesting what I was. Personally the silver lips made me feel like a space mermaid. I didn't buy anything specifically for this look, I just happened to have a lot of things, the headpiece is simply a necklace that I clipped onto the wig to keep it secure. The face makeup wasn't that hard to do either, I only used two eyeshadows and one glitter pigment. The hardest part was without a doubt trying to stick on the Sacred Hour Swarovski stones because a lot of glue transferred to my fingers, cleaning them after applying a few stones made the process much more bearable.

Birmingham Zombie Walk 2013

I'm expecting people's care cup to be empty for this post but hey, considering how my last post was Zombie related, I thought I'd share more Zombie love. Now this Zombie Walk actually happened way back in summer, and I did plan on sharing photos because I love seeing people's costume/cosplay efforts but for some reason I didn't get around to it, go figure. That said, the very first local zombie walk happened back in Halloween 2009, me and a few friends all zombified ourselves and made our way to town to join others attending the walk. In the end, we never made the walk...why? Because we were so busy playing zombie whilst travelling to town that we missed the full walk. I skipped out on the annual walk in the following years but this year decided to just go for it when a friend mass messaged people if they were up for it. So I finally had a taste of what an actual zombie walk was like!

So the day started off with everyone meeting at the park where the organisers had set up a long row or makeup stalls that attendees could get zombified at by paying a small fee. It was a charity event, so all the money made went towards the local children's hospital. After my friends had gotten their makeup done we just sat down and chatted whilst taking in our surroundings.

At any event where people dress up/cosplay it's always so interesting to people watch and try and figure out how on earth some people built some of their costumes. There were quite a few zombie brides, zombie babies and pregnant zombies too, which was so ridiculous it was awesome to see.

As awesome as it was to see many classic type zombies, my favorite zombies were definitely the ones that mixed cosplays with zombie makeup. It was great trying to figure out what some of the people were dressed up as, the disney ones were pretty obvious to figure out, along with some of the comic book related ones. I loved the Team Fortress 2 group effort, they even made the heavy have a rotating minigun. The ones I was less familiar with were the Kill Bill and Pyramid Head outfits, luckily my friends knew who they were.

Just before the walk there was a mini speech by one of the children from the hospital and it was time for all of us zombies to gather in one place before we hoarded out in the streets of Birmingham. It was quite amusing seeing people's reactions to it all, some of the little kids got scared by a few of the costumes.

After seeing cosplays crossed with zombies, I've been considering just taking one of my old costumes and just zombifying them a bit, it's an awesome way to reuse an old costume :3 Something, I'll probably do at next years zombie walk. All in all, it was fun to do and there's the added bonus of doing something positive by donating.

Concrete Minerals Zombie Girl Collection

I've already shared a bunch of swatches from the cruelty-free and almost 100% vegan friendly brand, Concrete Minerals. With the return of the Walking Dead on TV and Halloween around the corner, I thought now would be the perfect opportunity to review Concrete Minerals' Zombie Girl collection. The set contains 6 zombie themed mineral eyeshadows, three which are exclusive to the set while the other three are available for purchase on their site.

Swatches done using Concrete Minerals Electric Eye Primer
With the Left 4 Dead games being one of my favourite games, along with being a huge fan of the walking dead comic series, I definitely squee'd when I received this. I adore the sticker design on the tin of this set, it's definitely cool inspiration for a potential future Halloween look. I've swatched a few of Concrete Mineral's stuff before but I felt that using the brand's Electric Eye Primer with these shadows made it so much easier to apply, which shouldn't surprise me.

Living Dead is a moss green with copper undertones, the game gives away the inspiration behind the colour. It is definitely the perfect green for a zombie shade.

Nightmare (exclusive) is an electric purple with pink sparkle. I have to say though, whilst looking at this in the tub, I struggled to tell whether it was blue or purple but once applied it was obviously purple, and a gorgeous shade at that, I think this will end up being my favourite purple shadow.

Quarantine (exclusive) is a medium pink with purple undertones, although I'm not huge on pink in general, this is a lovely soft shade that I've actually gotten a fair amount of use from.

Graveyard (exclusive) is described as a deep taupe with pink shimmer, it reminds me of dirt, but don't let that put you off as I do genuinely love the colour.

The Vaccine is a steel blue-grey with bright green duochrome, I adore this silvery shade, it's not too dull to be grey and not too bright and sparkly to casually wear on the lids.

Blood and Guts is a rusty red with bright aqua shift. This is definitely a super unique shade, I can safely say, I own nothing like it. That said, this one was the only tricky one to apply but I think that's because it's not a simple single colour.

The Zombie Girl Collection is available on the Concrete Minerals website for $36 which is just over £22, if you're in the UK, you can order the set from the Cute Cosmetics website for £25.

Spider Queen Halloween Makeup

I've FINALLY managed to get around to creating another Halloween look. One that I'll definitely be wearing to one of the Halloween events this year. I've never gothed up with my makeup but I really like the way this turned out. I was going to call this a purple widow look but widow spiders are red so I've resorted to being really lame and am now calling it the Spider Queen. The idea essentially came to me whilst rewatching a certain youtube video where Spiderman says "Please don't tell anyone I webbed myself" and boom, inspiration hit me. Except, I didn't want it to be Spiderman themed itself.

I have to say, I thought this would be really easy to do but man, I don't think I've ever spent so long doing my makeup! I thought it'd be really easy to draw spiderwebs but drawing on yourself with a mirror was challenging. By the time I was done, the sun had disappeared and it was quite dark, so it was a struggle to take decent shots. It was definitely worth it as I love the end effect, and how it looks like I have a tattoo across my chest as well. I adore the spider web false lashes from Claire's and Illamasqua's purple lipstick in Kontrol and how they finish off the look nicely.

So how did I get this look? I started off by drawing on my chest, first with Illamasqua's sophie pencil then I rubbed most of it off and went over it with Barry M's liquid liner. After that, I started priming my eyes and did a purple smokey eye with a lot of blending. I then applied my foundation and powder, did my brows before working on the extra detailing on the eye. I drew 4 curved lines extending from my eye, joined them up like a web and then lined my eyes. I finally added in the eyelash extensions then used an invisible lip liner before applying my purple lipstick. To finish off the look, I used Illamasqua's powdered metal in Thalia as a Blush and dabbed a bit of the glittery powder into the webs of my eyes and across my chest.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Sample Swatches

I recently got my hands on a few samples of Urban Decay's Revolution Lipstick samples and thought I'd share some lip swatches and test out the other shades to see if I like any of them enough to purchase a full sized one. (Don't worry though, there's a Halloween themed post to come soon.) This is a US sample so if you're not there, you may find it hard to get your hand on this but if you really want to try these out, I came across this listing on ebay UK. I've also already purchased Venom, you can get a closer look of it here, now on to the swatches!

*All swatches done without lip liner

F-Bomb is a classic red, ultimately not a unique color but still a lovely shade, I was surprised to find that it was a shade of red that went well with my skin. So much so, that I have the sudden urge to wear red lipsticks more often. I did find that out of all 4 shades, a little of F-bomb really did go a long way and I didn't have to use as much product for full coverage.

Naked is a nude pink shade, it's a lovely color but my only concern is that I already own at least three lipsticks like this already. That said, the formula on this is great and super creamy. If and when I manage to finish at least 2 of those, I'll probably restock on the shade by going for this.

Obsessed is described by Urban Decay as a bright baby pink. I feel like this shade just doesn't suit my skin tone which is a massive shame. Especially as I've seen this shade on quite a few other people and it looks lovely but whenever I wear it I feel like it looks so...bleh. Also I found that I really had to dig in to make it opaque and even then, it's rather sheer and doesn't have full opaqueness.

Anarchy is a bright fuschia, I did do a recent look of the day with a bright pink fuschia lip but this shade of fuschia seems like a deeper pink. I found it really easy to get full coverage with Anarchy. I'm currently unsure if I'll be purchasing the full size. I'll probably play around some more with my sample and decide later if I can live without it or not though.

I apologise for the relatively short post, I've been busy with work and life and to top it all off, the sun has decided to hide away so it's been a struggle recently.

Broken Doll Halloween Makeup

So, I was meant to do this makeup look a while ago for Halloween month but life got in the way and I never got around to trying it out until the other day. This look was very much inspired by an image I saw on reddit a few weeks ago, I actually can't seem to find it on there anymore, so I apologise for the lack of reference. I did whore out a photo of this look on Facebook and was surprised by how many of my friends liked it, hopefully you guys will too?

This was my first attempt at this look and given that I'm really a nobody that's still relatively new with playing with makeup, I think it turned out quite well. I first used a black eyeliner pencil to outline where I'd do my makeup properly, then I used a light foundation and powder outside of the outline and used a darker foundation and powder inside the outline I drew. Next, I lined my lips red and colored them in with a glossier red lip pencil (a creamy lipstick would do too). Next, I filled in my brow then worked on my eye shadow, which was just a highlighter shade right under the brow then a shimmery bronze/gold on the lid and blended in a light brown shadow to give a little depth (I then topped off with some more shimmery bronze/gold on the lid). I lined my eye, added mascara and then added some blush inside the lines. Finally, I outlined the crack area with liquid liner and then added a few extra details/cracks to it. Wait for it to dry and you're done!

Halloween Costume Ideas

Today's post was meant to be a Halloween Makeup look but last night I tried on some moisturiser that completely bloated my face so instead I thought I'd share some of the Halloween costume ideas I've been considering. I never was really into Halloween until I got to uni. The costumes I wore weren't particularly 'sexy' ones either. I've dressed as Hitgirl from Kick-Ass, Nyan Cat, a female comedian from the Watchmen, Princess Peach (I will never wear a blonde wig again), Batgirl, a generic zombie and Trinity from the Matrix. Those are all just things I can remember off the top of my head. So, here are three costume ideas I've come up with for this year.

Wednesday Addams Halloween Cosplay Costume
Wednesday Addams Halloween Cosplay Costume

There are two ways to get the Wendesday Addams dress down. Either wear a white blouse under a black dress or just buy a standard Peter Pan collar dress. There are so many of these dresses out there lately, which is why/how I got the idea to dress up as her. It's an easy costume to get together. After you get the dress sorted, you just need to tie your hair into two plaits, wear black tights and get some black flats and you're sorted...unless you have blonde hair, people might get thrown off a little. I already own a coffin bag, and thought it'd go well with a Wednesday Addams costume. I'm currently heavily leaning towards wearing this for Halloween this year.

Hipster Ariel Halloween Costume Cosplay
Hipster Ariel Halloween Costume Cosplay
Purple V Neck Sweater £12/ Mermaid Scales Leggings £12 / Tokyo Laundry Skinny Jeans £25 / River Island Dark Green Skirt £18 / Converse Shoes £40 / Turquoise Litas, £20 / Purple Shell Clutch Bag, £16 / Flounder Small Soft Toy £12 / Starfish Hair Accessory £11 / Illamasqua Nail Polish in Venuous, £14 / 8 Bit Hipster Glasses £4/ Sebastien Plush £12 / Adorkable Apparel Crop Top £20 / Fire Wig £19 / Lime Crime Red Velvet £11.5

For a long time I've wanted to cosplay as Ariel, mostly because I love red hair but the idea of wearing purple shells as a bra casually hasn't really appealed to me...yet at least. Also, I'm not crafty enough to create my own mertail so am I going to let that stop me? Nope. I also came across a pair of 8-bit hipster looking glasses that I've been dying to wear so I figured why not combine the two? Why not dress up as Hipster Ariel? XD I won't be dressing up as her for Halloween but there's a comic con coming up next month that I plan on attending. It gives me time to finalise how I plan on actually pulling the costume together as there are so many ways to pull it off and time to actually get the parts together too.

Death from the Sandman Halloween Cosplay Costume
Death from Neil Gaiman's the Sandman Halloween Cosplay Costume

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Death, she's from Neil Gaiman's the Sandman series. It's one of those more obscure references (despite the fact that the series of graphic novels are pretty popular), not a lot of people would realise who on earth I was dressed up as. I pretty much have everything I need to pull this off (except for the Ankh necklace) but I think I'll just wait for the right opportunity to dress up as her as there's nothing more infuriating than putting in a lot of effort dressing up as a character that nobody knows. #nerdgirlproblems

Did you like my list? What are you dressing up as for Halloween this year?

5 Breaking Bad Characters I Love & Hate

First off, SPOILERS, so don't read this if you're not all caught up yet. So when I began this blog, I knew at some point I'd want to broaden up it's content from solely Beauty to other interests I hold. Breaking Bad is a show that I had dismissed and ignored for years. When I finally watched the show I was wow'd so much by the characters that I felt the need to write about it. So here we are now, me raving about who's bad deeds are forgiveable for being awesome and who make me start yelling at the TV monitor. Spoilers ahoy after the jump.
