Game of Thrones Makeup Series - House Lannister

The long awaited post, over one week late despite the fact that last week's episodes ending was pretty badass. I won't spoil it for those who may have still not watched it yet. I'll make sure to throw in a second look this week sometime. Aside from that ending, we got to see another side of Jamie Lannister. I honestly almost felt as though he wasn't such a loathesome creature, I almost forgive him for throwing Bran Stark out that window. The TV show is now covering parts that I haven't covered in the books. I'd imagine once the whole season is over I'll go back to finishing off the books due to some crazy awesome cliffhanger of sorts. xD

Last week I was severely lacking inspiration. For the Lannisters I had several different ideas come to mind and I did try out the three different looks but they all just kept not turning out as nice as I had hoped. Eventually I settled for one and posted it up, but then I shortly took it down as I decided I no longer liked it. This was the only one that looked alright overall I felt. I hope I get out of this funk soon. Sorry for the quality of photos as well, lack of sun didn't help with everything.

I do wish I had a blonde Cersei wig to go with this, or even a red wig. The gold and red eyeshadow combination is a really difficult color combination to wear. Aside from a bride wearing the color combination at a desi wedding or during some sort of crazy photo shoot, I don't think the combination is particularly wearable. It's definitely not something I'd casually wear around.

Products Used

Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Love+
Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Goldilux
Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in Bitten, Shimma Shimma & Creme Brulee

LoveMakeup Store Haul

I haven't done this week's GoT look yet, I'm well aware of it. This week's look was going to be based on the Lannisters and I originally had a specific look in mind but then decided to scrap it completely as I had something else in mind instead, hence my current haul. Thought I'd pick up a few other things too. There's been a lack of posts lately as I've been overwhelmed by the BrumBloggerMeet goodies and I'm trying to slowly start using some of the skin stuff for a bit before I start writing up thoughts on them.

So first things first, I picked up these Paperself Lashes, who were one of the lovely companies who donated a few items to the BrumBloggerMeet I attended last week. Unfortunately, only a select few people ended up getting some of their lashes and I wasn't one of them. Ever since I saw Jennifer Lawrence's really simple eye makeup in the ending of the Hunger Games I've been meaning to pick myself my own pair of false paper eyelashes. The set I chose are peacock ones. I was really happy to find that there were two pairs of lashes in the set as it's a tiny one that's meant to be placed on the end of one's lashes as this comes with the price of £10.

I noticed the love-makeup website were having a sale on Sugarpill's loose eyeshadows and single pan pressed eyeshadows, that combined with their spring discount code made me decide to go ahead and add to my current collection of loose eyeshadows which I adore. Afterparty is described as a vibrant metallic turquoise with intense sheen, it's a pretty blue. I've swatched it over NYX's Black Bean, Milk and Urban Decay's Primer Potion. It does alright on it's own too. I'm not surprised though as I already own 12 of their other loose eyeshadows and adore the quality. If you're in the UK you can order your own from the Love Makeup store as they are on sale for £7 quid. I purchased my order on Thursday and was surprised to receive mines today!

The only thing better than pretty packaging is pretty purple packaging. I've never bought any Lime Crime products although I've been meaning to for a long while, especially these Lime Crime uniliner liquid liners. When I opened these I was surprised by how heavy and thick they were. Obviously they don't weigh a ton or anything like that but I was expecting some really cheap plastic casing for the top cover of the uniliners, instead the purple casing is made of some form of metal I think. It just makes it more awesome.

Rhyme & Reason are the gold and silver liners that were introduced in the end of last year. Blue Milk and Quill were part of the original collection. Rhyme & Reason are the only ones with shimmer whilst Blue Milk and Quill are more matte. The quick swatches were just one layer of each of them hence why they aren't all super opaque, all except Quill which is currently sold out on the Lime Crime website and damn I can see why. Dat Opaqueness. Mm mm mm.

April #BrumBloggerMeet

So last weekend I attended the Birmingham Blogger Meet Up which was organised by a uni friend, Sara from prettyinpink, Chloe from Unwrittenhollywood & Hayley from Strangeness and Charm. As a 'shy' blogger, I was initially quite anxious about committing to attending the event but I figured at worst, at least I know one other person. As the date came closer and closer though, I felt less anxious and more excited and genuinely looked forward to meeting everyone.

So the day started off with us meeting up at Starbucks, where we made our own introductions getting to know each other and were given a mini quiz by our hosts in hopes to win a prize later on in the evening. Majority of us basically began pulling out our phones and searching for the answers online. After all of that, we were led to Selfridges for a 'fashion show'.

Apparently, Selfridges had double booked us for a champagne reception so a fashion show was meant to be put together to make up for it all. However, our fashion show just ended up being a mini tour around the ladies department which was weird :S But we bonded over the whole experience either way through being all ermergerd at the strange eyebrows of the ladies who had toured us around.

Sneaky photo taken by Alice from Tea and Lead, with Chloe, Me & Sara

We then moved on to our own seperate groups after first dropping by Selfridges Beauty department, some people went off to try some bubble tea, I went off to check out the local pro MAC shop that I never knew existed and had some Starbucks before moving on to Bar Room Bar for a few talks, a meal and lots of goodies that awaited us.

This was the bag that all of our things were kept in. The organisers personalised the watch warehouse bags with spray paint and added a label to each of them with our names on them. We were also given a code WWT5 which gives you 5% off a purchase from their site which has a wide variety of watches and some jewelry on the side.

At the venue, when we got our bags we all basically found ourselves pulling random items out of our bag to sneak a peek at what we got. This was all of the stuff that was in the bag aside from some jewelry. I'll be going through as many of these products throughout the coming month. I figure I'd rather put up photos of seperate products/brands rather than just list everything here for them to be ignored.

Press Releases included in the bag

Jewelry close up

Each of us all also got an extra piece of jewelry from KrisXChi who also attended the event. She came up to the majority of us personally throughout the day and talked to each of us. She told me she had seen my Scrabble Nail Art and personalised the choice of jewelry she gave me which I thought was awesome. I'll probably take photos of some form of nail art with this ring on it.

Before ordering our meals, we were given a talk by a lady from Benefit and the director of John Lewis in Solihull who invited us to a future event in October. The two also gave us a small goodie bag each which was really kind of them.

Next, we received a talk from Elijah Choo founder of Birmingham based brand Bodhi who was generous enough to give a few of his products to us in each of our bags. He started the brand as he had some acne problems caused by generic cosmetic products so he switched to products that had all natural ingredients. He got bored of them and missed his scents and so Bodhi was born. He has future plans to expand the brand by going into cosmetics which I'm quite eager to try out when it happens.

We then moved on to having our meals, where mines arrived after everyone had already finished their meal and they messed up the order. So I ended up getting a free meal which is good I suppose but I don't think I managed to eat half of the meal. Oh well xD Our hosts then moved on to the raffle where there was a prize for each of us to win. I had happened to win the big box of Bodhi goods (pictured above), which I look forward to trying out as I've had a sniff of the items in the boxes and they smell quite pretty.

If you'd like to attend a future Brum meet, I recommend you follow the @Brumbloggermeet twitter account. I haven't received an e-mail yet with everyone who attended but I've taken this from another attendee, I hope it's accurate.

Makeup Geek Colorful Eyeshadow Swatches

Last month I reviewed my Makeup Geek eye shadow starter kit and posted up not one but two them. I've finally gotten around to putting up some of the other shadows. Just to clarify, yes Corrupt is in both sets that's cause I first bought this one then was given the other one as part of the eyeshadow starter kit.

These are old shadows, I've had them for a while so they aren't in great condition in the photos. The photos are pretty accurate to color except Poolside and Appletini look much brighter in their pan.

"These are all highly-pigmented
Half the price of MAC shadows without sacrificing quality
This kit is for the eyeshadow pans only
These pans can be placed in empty palettes (Mac or Z-Palettes)
With a separate palette, you can build your own custom palettes
All our shadows are cruelty-free
These eyeshadows are Talc and Paraben-Free
We ship worldwide at affordable rates"
- MakeupGeek.com

Colors from left to right
Razzleberry Corrupt Bitten Duchess Wisteria Unicorn Neptune Poolside Peacock Appletini Sea Mist  Envy

The top row of swatches in each photo is without a primer. As you can see, investing in an eyeshadow primer is really worth it! Otherwise, you'll struggle with wearing these for sure!

In terms of pigmentation, it amazes me how bright Razzleberry looks, especially on top of a white shadow base. I found Neptune to be a bit disappointing as I expected it to be a lot brighter but I think it may work well with a white base. My favorite shades are Unicorn, Peacock, Sea Mist and Envy.

Razzleberry - Bright Orange with flecks of gold
Corrupt - Intense Matte Black with a very subtle sparkle
Bitten - Matte Deep Maroon Red
Duchess - Matte Cool Purple
Wisteria - Matte Pale Purple
Unicorn - Shimmery Blue Purple
Neptune - Matte Bright Blue
Poolside - Bright Shimmery Teal with flecks of gold
Peacock - Matte Deep Teal Blue
Appletini - Shimmery Apple Green with flecks of gold
Sea Mist - Shimmery Turquoise
Envy - Deep Metallic Green

Here are a few looks I've posted up where I've used some of these shadows
Sweetie Belle - Kingfisher Bird - Purple Brows - Tully

As I've used eight out of all 12 shadows in a look that I've posted up here, I'll make sure to put up 2 more looks for the remaining four shadows. One of them with Appletini and Envy along with others and the second one with Wisteria and Neptune.

A single pan costs $5.99 which is a little over £4.60. If you don't have a place to store the eyeshadow pans safely, there's the option of buying eyeshadow compacts for $7.99 which translates to roughly £5.30. Alternatively you can look into purchasing a Z-palette which you can also buy on the MakeupGeek store.

Game of Thrones Makeup Series - House Tully

Another week, another episode of Game of Thrones! I had already planned on doing House Tully this week, with the funeral scene of Cataleyn Stark's father, I figured it was perfect timing. The short scene was pretty lulzy. Here's a mini factoid, the Tully sigil in the tv series is not the same as the one described in the books, in the books, there are four horizontal lines on the house sigil.

This was one of the looks that I originally had one thing in mind but in the middle of it all, completely changed the entire look and to be honest, this had worked out quite well! I was originally going to do something similar but without the winged out eyeshadow and have two rows of  white eyeliner replace the black but I most definitely prefer what I turned up with instead.

After applying Urban Decay's primer potion, I lined my bottom lid with MUA's royal blue eye pencil. Then blended in peacock from makeup geek and then feathered in a dark blue eyeshadow from Inglot. Next, I began by applying a dark brown color on my lid, then I topped it off with makeup geek eyeshadow in Bitten and blended it outwards. To give a more red tinge to the eyes, I mixed in Sugarpill's pressed eyeshadow in Love+ and then added in a white eyeshadow between the blue and muddy red shadows. Finally, I added some eyeliner, mascara and filled in my brows.

I've listed the products below in the order of application.

Products Used

Urban Decay Primer Potion
MUA Intense colour eye pencil in Royal Blue
Makeup geek eyeshadow in Peacock
Inglot eyeshadow in DS 483 & Pearl 452
Makeup geek eyeshadow in Bitten
Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Love +
Makeup geek eyeshadow in Créme Brulee
Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Tako
Illamasqua precision ink in Abyss

Pete Steele Type O Negative Nails

Three years ago today, Pete Steele of Type O Negative passed away due to a heart failure and so today's nail art is dedicated to the band. This specific look is based off of one of the band's album artwork called life is killing me. It's quite fitting considering how he died as well. It bums me out though as I only really began being a fan of theirs after his death and I'll now never have the opportunity to see them perform live.

These were not bad for a first attempt, I did this free hand and was satisfied with the results. I've seen a number of variants on this kind of manicure and I'll definitely be doing something similar some day. The little circle with the line inside on the thumb is part of the band logo, I thought it'd be a cool little thing to add. I simply painted two coats for the base color then used a thin brush to dip into the radium polish and drew the squiggly lines.

The black nail polish is from Barry M whilst the green is Illamasqua's Radium. The only thing I didn't like about this was that I didn't own the right shade of green but it was close enough and it probably just gives me the excuse to add more polishes to the current collection.

I've embedded a song off of the same album for any of those who were curious, I personally like to think it's one of their more accessible songs. Even though the lyrics are pretty negative, I've always just found this song to be really fun? I suppose I could easily say the same thing to all of my favorite songs by them.

Game of Thrones Makeup Series - House Stark

Another week, another makeup look based on Game of Thrones and more importantly another episode! Last week's episode was surprisingly dull, I think as someone who's caught up with the reading, I've began to prefer the original source material. Also, without giving any spoilers, I did find that a lot of the first episode was telling what had happened and there was very little showing. I've luckily managed to watch the 2nd episode, finally we get to see Arya! Oh there was also some Bran in there and though I usually find him rather dull, it's been much more interesting with the introduction of Jojen and Meera Reed. I was glad to see Brienne of Tarth return too. In honor of seeing one of my favorite character's I thought I'd dedicate this week's makeup look to House Stark!

So, House Stark, I think we all know their house slogan so I'm not going to get into any of that. The stark colors are pretty dull, with a black direwolf on a snow white field. I wasn't particularly expired to be honest, I did try out one look but decided to completely remove it without even taking picture. It was too dull and uninspired, the same way I felt about the look so I completely scrapped it and tried something different the next day. I thought I'd do a direwolf claw scratch across one of the eyes, instead of using white or red for blood, I just used silver for scratches. It turned out pretty cool even though I don't own fine enough brushes unfortunately. My main annoyance though was the poor lighting I dealt with today, I might have to do another look that's similar at some point with better lighting and maybe finer brushes.

This was a reasonably quick look to do, I just used NYX's Jumbo Pencil as a black base then applied black eyeshadow on the lid and added a wing and added some neutral colors above. Then I mixed in some sealing gel with Sugarpill's loose eyeshadow in Tiara (silver) and drew the lines across the eye. Next, I filled in my brows, then I applied the foundation and finished off with lipstick and gloss.

Products Used
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean
Inglot Eyeshadow in AMC 62 and AMC Shine 11
Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Tiara
Illamasqua sealing gel
Illamasqua Precision Ink in Abyss
Sleek True Color Lipstick in Barely There
Guerlain Terracotta Gloss

LOTD: Unexpected Drama Queen

I recently reviewed Makeup Geek's eyeshadow starter kit and have posted a look using a few of their shades. I've finally gotten around to using the other shadows and actually taking photos this time. It's a simple smokey eye using Makeup Geek's Drama Queen eyeshadow.

It's not an especially colorful look compared to my usual posts, I got more compliments on my hair than my makeup today. Looking at the two full shots now, I think I should have just worn black as I find the makeup compliments it better than the grey. I realise now that i forgot to apply mascara but to be honest, mascara just isn't something I wear on a daily basis, I find I go out of the way to apply it only on certain nights out or if I'm exclusively applying makeup for the blog.

Some of the looks I post here are intentionally 'unwearable' as they're considered unconventional but I don't casually wear those looks everyday. I'm tempted to start sub-labelling my makeup looks into wearable, colorful, neutral, makeup series etc. I just need to find an effective way to do that without creating too many random labels. I'll make sure to move on from these neutral Makeup Geek shadows and finally put up proper swatches of some of the colorful ones I bought many months ago. I'll make sure to put up solely colorful looks along with mixed ones.

The method to applying this look was pretty simple, it's a basic smokey eye. With darker colors on the bottom of the lid, lighter shades making their way out and blending, lots of blending. I hope to do some more pictutorials in time too for those who are interested.

Products Used

Makeup Geek eyeshadows in Drama Queen, Unexpected and Prom Night.
Revlon photoready powder in medium and dark
Illamasqua Eyebrow Cake
L'oreal Super Liner Gel Intenza Eyeliner
Sleek Makeup True Color Lipstick in Barely There
Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Ambition

Scrabble Nail Art

I rarely get an idea for nails and instantly do them, normally I just write them down somewhere and say I'll do it later at some point as I'd be enjoying whatever manicure I was currently sporting. Today however, I had a simple enough idea and thought yup, I think I'll try it out. I honestly don't know how it came about though, I think I was trying to figure out what I thought about Scrabble jewelry or something then thought why not just paint it on.

At first I thought I'd just leave my thumb as a bank square piece that do exist in game but then I changed my mind and did a random paw print symbol. I figure there'd be a loose connection to the Mreow in my blog name. Even though it seems like a rather werewolf-y paw print.

The base color I used was a creamy white shade, even though it may seem completely white due to white balancing in the above photos. As it is a light color and as I applied really thin layers, for true opaqueness I had to apply 3 coats. I don't own the game so I just googled Scrabble letters for their scores. This was done freehand so it's far from perfect, I did wipe off a nail and reapply the polish quite a few times until I eventually just settled. Now I say freehand but I did use a special nail art pen that I had mentioned in an earlier post from Inglot cosmetics which does make the process much easier. At some point, I'm definitely going to invest in a few more nail art pens as they come in pretty handy.

Products Used
Illamasqua's nail varnish in Load
Inglot's black nail art pen, number 36

Game of Thrones Makeup Series - House Baratheon

I along with the rest of the world, am incredibly stoked for the new season of Game of Thrones. Since the final epsiode of season 2 I began reading the books and have made my way to a storm of swords. Unfortunately, as I'm in the UK, I still have yet to watch the first episode nor the conclusion to the Walking Dead, which annoys me slightly. For the few of you on my Facebook page, you would already know of my plans to release a makeup look based on a different house each week, at least until the third season ends. You would have also had a sneak preview of my House Baratheon makeup look.

The house sigil is a black stag on a field of gold, when Robert Batatheon ascended the Iron Throne a crown was added to denote the family's royal status. There have been alternate versions of this, one uniting the Baratheon with the Lannisters, a second to represent King Stannis, Baratheon of Dragonstone and a third green sigil for their youngest brother, King Renly who's alliance was with the Tyrells. I decided to just stick with the yellow and black look rather than turning it into a golden one. Having said that, To turn this into a wearable look, I'd definitely suggest using gold eyeshadow rather than yellow.

I'm sure the look is pretty obvious and there should be little to explain here. The eyeliner work represents the stag and the yellow eyeshadow, the 'golden' yellow field. The look was simple. The only real issue is I find yellow to be a really tricky color to deal with in general. Using NYX's Jumbo Pencil in Milk as a base along with Sugarpill's super pigmented shadows made the whole thing possible though.

I have no idea which house I'll work on next. I guess I'll just have to watch the first episode and do some reading until inspiration hits me.

Products Used
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk
Sugarpill pressed shadow in Buttercupcake and Tako
Illamasqua Precision ink in Abyss
Illamasqua Eyebrow cake
Illamasqua powdered metal in Thalia
Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation No 9

Illamasqua Lipstick in Test
