Aqua Violet - Models Own - Beetlejuice collection

I had a makeup look I was hoping to post but I didn't get the time to take pics, so instead today I give you another nail related post!

I came across ModelsOwn polishes for the first time when I bumped into a stall they had set up in a Westfields mall in London. (It's now shaped as a polish bottle). At the time, I didn't purchase anything but whilst in boots the other day I noticed a 2 for £8. This specific polish is part of the Beetlejuice collection.

"Featuring a selection of colours each consisting of four pearlescent tones mixed into one shade with shimmer to create a chrome-like finish." - boots.com

"Duo-chrome shades in a range of hues" - modelsownit.com

Availability
These aren't in many retail places, they're only available in some boots stores not all of them and then they don't necessarily have all of the available colors at boots. They do have the odd mini stall in certain malls. The best choice would be to try checking out the models own website.

Prices
A single bottle of polish normal costs £5 (a single bottle contains 14ml). Boots currently has an offer of 2 for £8. Alternatively, the models own website lets you buy 3 for £12 or 5 for £18. There are also specific box collections containing 6 polishes that they sell for £20. There are 9 shades in the beetlejuice collection while the mini collection contains 3 (retails for £8). Neither of these gift packs contain this color, so I didn't bother buying them and sadly boots don't stock any of the other colors I was looking for from this collection.

Performance
On the first coat I temporarily freaked out as it was really thin and transparent but as you move along and place additional coats, it improves each time. I settled for three coats in the end but think it may have needed a fourth one. Thankfully though, it does dry up somewhat quickly. I love the duo-chrome finish, it may not show as well in these pictures but the colors keep changing between blue and purple and I find myself staring at my shiny nails for quite a while in decent lighting.

GOSH Early Green Comparison Swatches

I thought I'd do another swatch comparison post after putting up swatches of all my GOSH nail varnishes. The only main contender I has was an Illamasqua varnish.

"The perfect nail lacquer is developed on the basis on the most recent cosmetic and environmental know-how within its type of products. GOSH Nail Lacquer has a consistency that is easy to apply. Well covering, strong, and with a beautiful shiny and lasting finish. Formaldehyde and Toulene-free." - GOSH

"A spectrum of bold shades with a range of finishes including matt, rubber and high-gloss. Award-winning, extremely hardwearing and chip-resistant, there's an Illamasqua Nail Varnish for every shade of humanity. Apply two coats for intensity and use with Illamasqua Nail Base Coat and Illamasqua Nail Top Coat for the perfect finish." - Illamasqua

Finish
Out of the two varnishes I did have Illamasqua definitely came the closest to being a dupe however Radium has a shimmer finish and is slightly lighter than Early Green which has a basic gloss finish.

Quantity
One GOSH bottle contains 8ml of product whereas Illamasqua gets you 15ml of varnish.

Performance
Both Illamasqua and GOSH varnishes have received rewards where Illamasqua won a Temptalia Editor's choice award for best Nail Lacquer while GOSH won the Beauty Bible Award for best beauty steal. I find that one coat is more than enough with Illamasqua even though they recommend you use two coats, the GOSH ones need 2 sometimes 3 coats.

Price
One Illamasqua bottle costs £13.50 (£9.00 per 10ml) while a bottle of GOSH nail polish costs roughly £5 (£6.25 per 10 ml).

Barry M Swatches

"Every shade you could ever wish for in a high shine, long lasting formula." - BarryM.com

I purchased my first barry M polish when I was low on cash and was looking for a cheap alternative to my usual expensive love of Illamasqua varnishes as I was looking for some colors that I knew I wouldnt apply often but wanted for nail art. A single bottle contains 10ml of varnish and can be bought at £2.99 online at the barryM store or alternatively you'll find that superdrug do random offers on these varnishes often and currently are selling most of the regular colors with an offer of 2 for £5.

Colors are from left to right
(Numbers on left are superdrug, right ones are numbers at official barryM store)
134 yellow 129
296 coral 139
262 bright red 202
302 Fuschia 149
295 Turquoise 144
38 Mushroom 310
47 Black 141

Although they claim it to be a longlasting formula, I personally find their varnish to begin chipping a few days later however, I find this is due my extremely hot showers which tend to wear them down. Also I find 2 coats are usually good enough for attaining perfect color pigmentation. They don't take especially long to dry (10/15 mins max) either and the brush works well for an even application. They do their job and haven't failed me whenever I needed them for any nail art. My favorite colors are definitely Turquoise and Fuschia. Overall, I definitely would reccomend these for those on a budget or for those who don't want to spend too much money on a nail varnish color that they aren't sure they'd use more than a few times.

Sleek MakeUP True Colour Lipstick Review

As I've recently finished my go to everyday lipstick and as Sleek Makeup have released 10 new shades of lipstick recently, I decided to go and buy some Sleek True Colour lipsticks for myself. Turns out, neither of the three shades I bought were from the new collection though.

Prices
These retail for £4.99 at superdrug or on their website. It's a much cheaper price than what I'm used to paying (over £15 for a single tube). So I figured I'd pay the same price for three shades of lipstick. I personally bought my lipsticks in store as I prefer looking at my products before purchase. However, I don't think they stock the whole collection in store so you'd be better off buying the products online.

Packaging
It's quite basic, nothing particularly exciting nor extravagant, considering how this is a drugstore brand though, I'm not surprised. The packaging is definitely shorter and smaller than what I'm used to.

Product
"Awaken your makeup with a True Colour Lipstick. Get high impact lips with our vitamin E enriched lipstick in a selection of matte and sheen finishes." - SleekMakeup.com

I own few lipsticks, most of them are rather dry ones and matte. This lipstick though is highly moisturising and contains Vitamin E which gives added protection to your lips. Sleek MakeUP have recently released several new shades and have a decent range of flamboyant colors but look elsewhere if you're looking for a range of nude colors. They have purples, oranges, reds, pinks and peaches. The finishes come in either matte or sheer. The three lipsticks I bought are all sheer finishes. Despite the name, the sheer finish is still super pigmented.

Durability - The three lipsticks aren't as long lasting as I'm used to. I'd estimate one application to last roughly 2 or 3 hours at most. I found Fuschia to be the most durable as it would leave a bit of a lip stain effect. I think you'll find you'll have to reapply some lipstick after a meal as mines disappeared almost instantly after. I'm not sure whether it'll be the same case with a matte finish though.

Overall
I'm quite pleased with my purchases. Despite them not being super durable, they're moisturizing, highly pigmented and cheap. With a range of bright flamboyant colored lipsticks, I'll definitely be trying out some new shades soon.

Valentines Day Nails with Illamasqua

It's past midnight in the UK so I suppose that it is officially Valentines Day. I had originally planned on creating a Valentine's look but when it came down to it, I felt like today was definitely a paint my nails day and so I've came up with this Valentine themed manicure using only Illamasqua products.

The method is pretty straight forward, first I applied Loella (light pink) on all nails and waited for them to dry.
Next I painted Obsess (bright pink) on a sponge and applied it on to the nails for a gradient effect.
For added depth, I decided to add in Vice (deep cerise) also with the sponge
Then I drew in some hearts using Illamasqua's Precision ink in Scribe (white)
Finally, I added in a top coat shortly after as the precision ink formula is quick dry.

Products Used
Anti-Clockwise from Top
Illamasqua's Precision ink in Scribe
Illamasqua's Nail Top Coat
Illamasqua's Nail Varnish in Loella (Bright Candy Pink)
Illamasqua's Nail Varnish in Obsess (Bright Fuschia Pink)
Illamasqua's Nail Varnish in Vice (Deep Cerise)

LOTD: Pink & Purple Sugarpill Look

Whilst looking at my makeup stash today, I noticed my Sugarpill eyeshadows gathering dust. So I fixed this terrible injustice by creating this pretty pink and purple look. The main colors I used were their loose eyeshadow in Birthday Girl, which is a shimmery baby pink, the main two shades of purple I used were their pressed eyeshadow 2AM and Purple Plum off of their Burning Heart Palette and Heart Breaker Palette. I also used a bit of their lilac Paperdoll loose eyeshadow along with Hysteric.
This look is essentially a watered down look of something I have done in the past where I used their bright neon pink eyeshadow called Dollipop where the light baby pink shadow is. Since Sugarpill only specialises in eyeshadows and false eyelashes, the look isn't done with just Sugarpill cosmetics and I've used Illamasqua's precision liner, eyebrow cake, lipstick and their skinbase foundation.

Products Used
Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Birthday Girl, Paperdoll and Hysteric
Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in 2AM and Poison Plum
Illamasqua Precision Ink in Abyss
Illamasqua powdered metal in Thalia
Revlon Photoready Medium Powder
Illamasqua Skin Base No. 9

LOTD: MakeupGeek Starter Kit Look

I was contacted a while ago by the folks at MakeupGeek to try out some of their eyeshadows. My response: free makeup? You're asking if you can send some free makeup to me? Don't mind if I do! They had sent me their 9 eyeshadow starter kit which is full of rather neutral everyday shades as opposed to all of the colorful eyeshadows I usually tend to aim for. Rougly a week later and I had received them in the mail, I was impressed by how quickly the shipment from the states came in.

I'd like to state that these eyeshadows weren't sent as part of a deal or anything, there were no conditions for me to receive them and I'll be independently reviewing them soon giving my honest opinions.

Products
Makeup Geek eyeshadows in glamorous, creme brulee,
shimma shimma, cocoa bear, mocha
L'oreal Super Liner Gel - Black
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Illamasqua Illuminator in Odyssey
Illamasqua lipstick in Atomic + Test

Studded Nails

So I recently bought nail art embellishment wheel with studs, jewels and mini beads. You can buy these off of various websites, amazon, missguided or npw. Prices do tend to vary between each store, the cheapest seems to be on Amazon for £2.99 the official product name is 'Nail Art Rock Chic Stud Wheel'. This has given me an excuse to get back into experimenting with nail art again. I played around with the embellishments and this is what I came up with, all done free-hand:
The color I used is Illamasqua nail varnish in Caress. You can check out some of my other Illamasqua nail varnish swatches here. I added in the heart by using my Illamasqua precision ink in Scribe and adding a top coat to keep it in place and three days later, it still hasn't budged or faded. I'll make sure to put up photos of future manicure experiments with the other embellishments.
