My 100th Blog Post: Fall Makeup 2012 Trends

I've finally made it, my 100th blog post!

I wanted to do something special for it. So, I figured instead of just posting up a look or a review, I'd put up a post with me trying out 5 of this year's Autumn trends and write about my thoughts on each look. I was surprised to find that every single source had different trends for fall 2012, so I just chose whichever 5 I felt like doing.

I really liked this one. It's the first time I've ever worn really thick eyeliner and I do approve.

I can't say much for this. I can't help but feel as though the look is somewhat incomplete with no brow work.

Every time I wear a dark color, I'm surprised by how much I actually like it, even if I don't really look like myself.

Gold in general is a safe color to use, it's nice for a more subtle look (especially compared to some of the looks I've posted up here)

Oh purple, for some reason I don't wear you on my face enough. In this look, I just sweeped the lid with 3 shades of purple and was pleased with the results.

October Empties

We're approaching the end of yet another month and as per usual, I take a look at what products I've managed to use up this month:

1. Clinique take the day off makeup remover - I've recently stopped using makeup wipes as I figured they don't cleanse the skin as well as proper makeup remover. It's great and makes taking off all my heavy eye-makeup off an easy process, definitely a staple item.

2. LUSH Brazened Honey Face Mask - I've put up a review on this already, you can check it out here. It's a great face mask, especially as it addresses my skin problems. I will definitely be buying this again.

3. Clinique Super Balanced Powder No 6 - This was originally gifted to me by a relative. It was a strange gift to receive as it was powder of all things and it was two shades darker than the shade I usually wear. Despite that, I found that I actually preferred the darker shade to my original shade.

4. Illamasqua Liquid Eyeliner - As far as I'm aware, this used to be Illamasqua's only liquid liner product before they introduced their precision ink line. This is now discontinued though. I found the brush a little tricky to work with originally but soon after got to grips with it.

5. Inglot Black Liquid Liner - My very first liquid liner, for a long time, it was probably 3/4s empty and I had simply bought another one and stuck to that without finishing off this one.

6. Hypnose Drama Mascara by Lancome - I really did not like this mascara. As someone who's had little experience with mascaras this was a rather annoying product. The brush has a weird S-shape and you need to apply it in a very specific way. A way that I struggle with, so it really didn't suit me. It does give you good results though, again, only if you apply it well.

7. Illamasqua Eye Brow Cake - I'm going to call this a pan hit rather than an empty. I hit the pan a while back but I've made the mistake of leaving it in my bathroom where it heated up too much. So when it came to applying, the product just broke. It's pretty decent though, I think I may experiment with other eyebrow products before repurchasing though.

Overall I knew I didn't really use up much this month but I was happy to find I've used up more than I originally thought.

Bird Makeup Series - Kingfisher

So today we have my last bird inspired makeup look which is based on the Kingfisher. They are very bright birds with an orange and blue colored combination. I've mostly used makeup geek eyeshadows which I received a while ago. When I first received the eyeshadows, I put up some quick swatches, expect a more in-depth review on them sometime soon.

This look was more difficult to pull off than I expected. I struggled to apply the white dots, who would have thought something like that would be so tricky. Also, trying to find an appropriate lipstick color and clothes gear that wouldn't clash with the colors so much. For the lipstick, I ended up dabbing some of the orange eyeshadow onto the lips for the orange color. Oh well, as the last bird in my bird series, what are your thoughts?

Illamasqua Pure Pigment - Swatches & Review

"Made to be played with. A metallic, high-shine, pure-colour powder that highlights eyes, cheeks and brows. Mix with eye shadow, blusher or use it on its own to intense effect. Bring out your bold side." - Illamasqua.com
Packaging: In terms of aesthetics, I love it. It's different and unique. However, in terms of practicality, I do get scared I'm going to drop the box and have it spill everywhere since it's a bit difficult to lift the lid off. #firstworldproblems

Product: These pigments are super glittery. Expect fallout as with any loose pigment. These are long-lasting and true to color - except for Static. It looks white in it's pot but when applied it's actually a pinky-purple glitter. There isn't a wide range of colors for them but I do think most if not all of their shades are generally 'safe' colors (without being natural) that complement most skin tones. There are in total 11 colors available and I've luckily managed to get my hands on 6 of them.

All swatches on the left include the pure pigment with no primer.
All swatches on the right include the pure pigment mixed in with Illamasqua's sealing gel.

Static - Iridescent Pink/Silver
Incite - Warm Gold Shimmer
 Ore - Rich Russet Bronze
 Android - Shimmering Charcoal Black
Alluvium - Iridescent Midnight Blue
 Chasm - Golden Turquoise Shimmer

PriceThe pot costs £15.50 (approximately $25). It's expensive and on top of that you get only 1.3g as well for this product (So the price per 10g is a whopping £119.23). Having said that, I still have yet to get anywhere close to finishing up a single one of these. There's probably a reasonable amount of product in it, it's just really light and it's pigmented enough that you don't need to add layers for color. Lastly, Illamasqua do have sales on often enough for you to get the product for less. You can also get a 10% reduction from your 3rd order & onwards on their website.

My favorite colors out of the six are definitely Static, Android and Ore. Which is unusual for me as I generally prefer 'crazy' colors.

Product Rating: 3.5 / 5

Bird Makeup Series - Redheaded Woodpecker

I can't help but feel as though I've been slacking slightly with posts this month. I hope to make up for my somewhat quietness in the last week. I've been contemplating whether or not to start up a separate blog with random dorkish rants & reviews but I may just throw those ramblings in this blog instead as I don't see myself making more than maybe 1/2 nerd rambling posts per month. It probably won't interest most of my followers but if it interests at least one person out there, I'll be satisfied. Oh well, back to awkward self-shots time:

LUSH Brazened Honey Face Mask Review

Brazened Honey was inspired by traditional Indian ayurvedic principles, which put emphasis on balance as the foundation to health. Helen combined fresh free-range eggs and honey to soften, with astringent lime oil, antiseptic rosemary and exfoliating ground almonds. Kaolin reaches deep down into pores to pull out dirt and impurities, leaving your skin noticeably brighter and fresher. Our deepest cleansing mask, Brazened Honey is the perfect way to revive sluggish or congested skin." - lushusa.com
Good for? Eliminating dirt and excess oil and a deep cleansing exfoliator.
First impressionsSince the previous face mask I was using didn't help with any of my black heads at all. I noticed such a huge difference with this mask. I've definitely been seeing my black heads disappear over the 2 weeks of application. Also, the smell was a vast improvement, I think the smell comes from the ginger root and the mixture of oils like rosemary. The scent does freshen up my face, in a get ready to wake up and get moving kinda way whereas Lush's Love Lettuce lavender scent is more relaxing.

Does it work? Yes. Definitely. My opinion may be biased as I was using this right after my mehish experience with cosmetic warrior

Sage for warming, relaxing, toning and aphrodisiac effects. Free range eggs which contain vitamin A help maintain healthy skin by regulating natural sebum production. Honey a traditional acne remedy. Ground Almond Shells for exfoliation. Ginger root for its warming and antiseptic qualities. Parsley for its antioxident and anti-inflammatory qualities.

There are a whole bunch of other ingredients listed on the site, click here to check them out.

These retail:
1. in the US for $6.95 (£4.4, Dhs 25).
2. in the UK for £5.95 ($9.3, Dhs 35).
3. 45 Dhs here in Dubai ($12.25, £7.8).

Basically, if you're in the states, you're getting it at the cheapest price and if you're in Dubai, they're charging nearly twice the amount. However, I was happy to learn that you can still give in 5 tubs at the Lush stores here and get one for free.

Would I buy again? Yes. Definitely. I might actually like this more than Love Lettuce.

Burberry Beauty Sheer Foundation Swatches & Review

What the brand says
"Burberry Luminous Fluid Foundation gives the skin a natural fresh radiance.
The lightweight formula allows optimum light diffusion for a naturally luminous complexion.
Fluid Foundation that hydrates the skin whilst providing long lasting coverage.
Gently shake the bottle before use.
Massage across the face like a moisturiser for simple application or for maximum, long lasting flawless coverage apply with a sponge." - Burberry.com

My experience
I haven't worn liquid foundations for a while. This foundation was definitely very moisturizing and lightweight. A little bit could easily be spread for full coverage. Having said that, their coverage is light, though that's expected due to it being a sheer foundation after all. If you're looking for coverage, do make sure you use a concealer. It does even out some redness and whatever foundation color you chose can pretty much be blended into the skin. Is it longlasting? I can't confirm or deny as I find it difficult to tell with sheer foundation.

Trademark Burberry metallic check lid
Transparent pump bottle for simple retouch
Refer to first image in this post.

This is definitely one of the super expensive reviewed products at a whopping £34 or $52 for one bottle. You need to recall with these high end brands you pay the extra cash for the brand name and for the pretty bottle.

Will I be buying this? No. As, I've already found my dream foundation and it's a cheaper option.

Bird Makeup Series - Flamingo Inspired

I figured since I've done a few recent bird inspired makeup looks, I might as well carry it on. This one would probably take some gall to wear publicly, also I wouldn't consider myself a pink person. I quite like how this turned out overall. As a first attempt at ever applying double winged liner, I'm quite pleased.

Here is a closeup of the double winged graphic flamingo look.
